Spring Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Wedding Entertainment | DJ Brian B

We Love Providing Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Wedding Entertainment…especially for great couples.

This past weekend we were back at one of our favorite venues for a Spring Wedding – Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort for Cindy and Chris’ wedding. When you’re providing Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Wedding entertainment and handling the activities for such a great couple, you want to be sure everything is top notch.

I (Brian B) feel like I have known Cindy forever. We probably chatted at least once a month from the time she booked with us up until the wedding day. I love those types of clients. They actually were already married (Chris is in the military) so this celebration was for family and friends.

Cindy had the complete B-Boy experience. Beyond what Sandestin provides, we covered everything else except for floral and photography. You can’t put a price on having our entire team there. The chemistry with our crew working together is umatched.

New B-Boy Entertainment Option: DJ Furniture

For years, it bothered us. Couples would be spend good money on flowers, linens and other decor items to have a certain aesthetic for the wedding of their dreams.  Then, here we come as the DJ and we’re presented with a 6′ banquet table to set our gear on.  We did our best to mask our cables and gear with a “facade” to present a polished and clean appearance and from the guest point of view, it looked pretty clean but there wasn’t a wow factor.

It also felt much like a kid who hides all their toys under their bed when they know their parents are coming in to do a room inspection or an adult who throws all their clutter in the closet when guests come over. It may appear you’ve pulled one over on them, but inside you know it’s not how you want it to be.  This was the picture (below) that sealed the deal for us that we needed to be better. Making a clean and professional work station is part of what we constantly strive for so now we’ve added it as a New B-Boy Entertainment Option.

New B-Boy Entertainment Option:

The photographer took a picture from our angle of our entertainers and while we love the excitement and look of both of them, we could NEVER use this picture in any of our marketing because it just didn’t sit well with us. It looked messy. Again, the client and guests couldn’t see it from their vantage point but we could. Bottom line, our clients deserved better.

We worked with some designers on some DJ specific furniture to really take our presentation to the next level.  We’ve put together a promo video to showcase it off to you.

Currently, these pieces are only available in our Florida and NYC locations (sorry CA clients). If you’re interesting in ordering a piece for your event, contact us today.  They are in limited supply and booked on a first come, first serve basis.  In our Florida market, we are the only company who offers this.  Have your event stand out from the rest!

Brian B Entertains as Wedding DJ at the Emerald Grande Destin Harborview Room

This year I (Brian B) have been booked more and more as a destination event DJ across the country and abroad while growing our New York City operations. When opportunities now come to perform on the Emerald Coast, I relish them. Saturday was no exception. I got back to our Florida regional office performing as a Wedding DJ at the Emerald Grande Destin in the Harborview Room. The Spring weather was exceptional (very little to no humidity). Paired with the amazing Chris Alvarado who handled the ceremony and cocktail hour music, the entertainment was on another level. For an intimate group of 50 guests, this was an extreme musical treat all night and they were blown away. It’s been a few years since I personally worked at the Emerald Grand. One of the things that impressed me the most about the venue is their “pro” client and vendor approach. Cindy and her team couldn’t have been more nice and accommodating to every request of the vendors and the client. In the event industry, this is something that isn’t as common as one would think. Kudos to the Emerald Grande and their team.

One of the things I now appreciate more than ever is that guests were asked to be “present” and not take any photos at the event. This allowed them to soak in every bit of the wedding experience. I honored their request as well and took my picture pre-event. I brought in our plush white facade which accents that room perfectly. With our clean Bose speaker set-up and production lighting, the event was every bit what the bride and groom, Jenny and Greg, had dreamed it would be and more.

Defining Moments Wedding & Events of 30A

Heather Archdeacon-Williams, owner of Defining Moments Weddings and Events

I (Brian) have known and worked with Heather Archdeacon-Williams, who is the principal owner of the company, for over 10 years now.  Shawn Frady, our Florida General Manager, was able to sit down with her for a little Q&A for you all to get to know her better.

SF: Tell me how you got your start in the private event business and catch us up to present day?

HAW: I graduated from Florida State University, with a BA in Mass Media Communications.  For my entire Senior year, I had the opportunity to intern with the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.  During this time, I worked in Entertainment and then Guest Relations.  As part of my job in Guest Relations, I had the chance to work with Disney Special Activities to schedule VIP Tour Guides and tours.  During this time, I was exposed to special events, working corporate park buy-outs overnight.  Between corporate events and VIP tours, I fell in love with special events and the planning & coordination that went alongside of it.  I knew that special events was where I wanted to be.

After graduating from FSU, I worked for 3 years in ticketing and house management for all sections of fine arts in Tallahassee.  I loved it, but always felt like the ultimate destination for me was in weddings.  I applied for a job at the Cottage Rental Agency in Seaside, FL and was given a job offer as I was in route back to Tallahassee.  Not knowing anyone in this area (but captivated by the area), I picked up my life and moved within 3 weeks and was with them for 7 years as the Director of Weddings & Special Events.  Following my time in Seaside, I started my own wedding and special event planning company.  As of the beginning of April, Defining Moments Wedding & Events just celebrated our 5-year anniversary in business.  I absolutely love it!  I can’t image not being in weddings.

SF: Geographically, what areas do you cover?

HAW: I still do quite a few weddings in the Seaside and surrounding area, but now I work all up and down Highway 30A, as well as into Sandestin and Destin.

SF: Describe your ideal client. What are some characteristics you look for?

HAW: I love clients who can see the bigger picture.  It’s not just one day in their life but starting the rest of their life together. The little details are very important and can help personalize a wedding so much, but I think if a client can experience and enjoy the process, while still seeing the bigger picture, then they are going to enjoy it all so much more. This is the beginning of a new chapter of their life.

SF: What is Defining Moments Wedding & Events’ calling card?  What makes you stand out?

HAW: We are client focused. Everything we do is about them. We’re here to guide them through the entire process in making recommendations, finding things that are going to fit their personality and style because at the end of the day it’s their wedding, not ours. I tell prospective clients all the time, “We are not a “wedding factory” and we limit the amount of clients that we take on annually.  We don’t do multiple full-service bookings on a weekend.  This is so that  we can truly focus on each individual event and give our full attention to that one client.” Our couples should feel like they are the only ones getting married that year for us.

SF: If you had to pick your favorite thing about your job, what would that be?

HAW: Every day is different and unique.  I also love the fact that I get to be a part of an important chapter in this couple’s lives.  Not a lot of people can say that they get this opportunity in their careers.

SF: Do you have any tips you’d give to a bride and groom for a successful wedding?

HAW: Know your venue and asking about any potential challenges with the venue so nothing comes as a surprise (sound ordinance, parking, etc.). Also, I think it’s important to develop a personal relationship with the vendors you are working with because they are going to be locking arms with you for the next several months to make this wedding happen.  You have to be able to get along and trust them. If there’s not a personal connection, they may not be the right vendor for you.  But most importantly, I encourage my clients to take it all in on the wedding day.  It goes by so fast. So try to take time to truly experience it.  It is a very surreal experience. It is important to be able to stop for a moment, look around and realize that you are surrounded by the people you love the most and are closest to you instead of getting caught in all the little things that might come up.

SF: Because we are an entertainment company, I have to ask, what is your favorite wedding dance song?

HAW: Proud Mary by Tina Turner! I love it. I think it’s a classic. It crosses generational boundaries – grandma knows it, mom and her girlfriends are going to absolutely love it, bridesmaids and girls in general are going to get up and dance to that song. It’s got a great build to it and eventually gets everybody out on the dance floor.

SF: What’s an interesting fact that we may not know about you?

HAW: My father was a Radio DJ for country music.  He had a weekday morning show and was in radio from the time he was 15 until the day he died. No joke!  He LOVED what he did for a living (he always said that “it wasn’t work, but fun”) and I always admired that so very much.

From a business standpoint, Defining Moments Wedding & Events of 30A with Heather is fantastic to work with. She makes our staff’s lives so easy.  We just need to walk in our lane and do our part and everything falls into place. Personally, Heather is one of the nicest people we know. Her business is a true reflection of who she is. Any bride or groom would be lucky to have a planner like Heather. We are glad to recommend a person who’s company shares some of the same values we place such at a high priority.

Bboy Gives Back for Autism ECAC Golf Tourney | #bboygivesback

Did you know that April is National Autism Awareness month? We felt like this was a perfect time to call attention to one of our #bboygivesback non-profit partners, Emerald Coast Autism Center (ECAC). The staff at ECAC have a big job on their hands. Studies indicate that 1 in 68 children in the United States can be diagnosed as having autism spectrum disorder. These children will face innumerable challenges in life that many of us will never fully understand. But the good people at ECAC have put themselves on the frontline to face these challenges right alongside the youngsters they affect. It takes guts. It takes resolve. It takes a big heart. And it takes having a lot of support.

Bboy Gives Back for Autism and honored to do so…

That’s why B-Boy Productions was honored to play a role in the 5th Annual “Hole in ONE” Golf Tournament. The “ONE” in the event’s title is inspired by the “1 in 68” statistic, as a reminder of what — or rather, who — this charity fundraiser is aiming to help. Held at the prestigious Blackstone Golf Course in DeFuniak Springs, FL, the tournament raised funds for ECAC’s Capital Campaign, funding their newly-built facility on the Northwest Florida State College campus in Niceville, FL. This new state-of-the-art therapy center provides ECAC the opportunity to accommodate more students, and to offer them each a better, more effective therapy experience, while also ensuring a more substantial future for the center itself.

Golfers from all over the area, both seasoned and — not so seasoned, came out to support the cause. B-Boy Productions was there, with DJ Josh B. providing audio support and MC duties for the “shot gun start” opening ceremony and announcements. Hours later, as players returned from their rounds to the clubhouse, DJ Josh was there to provide music for the after party. He bolstered the tournament’s award presentations with a soundtrack of victory tunes, and kept a lively mix going throughout the many raffle giveaways.

We also brought some of our B-Boy team to participate as golfers in the tournament. It was obvious by the end of the day that none of our team will be pursuing a golf career.  Our sweet spot is behind the decks and rocking parties. That said, it was a great time for some of our DJs to hang outside of the office and get to know some of the ECAC staff, partners and donors.

Fort Walton Beach Wedding Venue, WaterVue At Brooks Street | Keith & Jennifer

Wedding season is upon us again, and 2017 started off with a BANG for me (DJ Dan Davis) at WaterVue At Brooks St. for Keith & Jennifer Bivins’ wedding. Watervue is such a great Fort Walton Beach Wedding Venue. The weather was absolutely perfect. We had met the bride and groom at a wedding showcase of ours over a year ago at this very location. This venue is one of our favorites in the Fort Walton Beach area and I got a chance to work with an amazing group of vendors (some for the very first time).

I had a career first happen at Jennifer and Keith’s wedding. Keith’s mother, unfortunately, had passed away recently so instead of a traditional Mother and Son formality dance, Keith and his step-daughter, Lydia, shared a dance together to…. “Everything is AWESOME!” from The Lego Movie!” Their crowd had great energy, and it wasn’t long before we were dancing the night away!”

Spring Wedding At The Henderson Wedding Venue In Destin

The Radigan-Noonan Spring wedding At The Henderson in Destin, FL was an affair to remember. This is the hottest new property in the area and definitely the hottest new Wedding Venue in Destin. There was a bit of cloud cover lingering above the horizon before the prelude and I (Josh, the DJ/MC) mentioned to Mike, the groom, that the sunset pictures were going to be amazing. I was not wrong!

The ceremony was a classical/classy moment with the Wedding Party walking into “Canon in D”, the bride came down the aisle to “Marry Me” by Train and the recessional was “The Arrival of Queen Sheba” by Handel. Transitioning to the Terrace for cocktail hour, the guests were serenaded by a large array of selections from artists including The Goo Goo Dolls, Frank Sinatra, Adele, and The Police.

Reception Formality Music

      • Grand Entrance: “I Gotta Feelin” by Black Eyed Peas
      • First Dance: “All Of Me” by John Legend
      • Cake Cut: “Sugar” by Maroon 5
      • Last Dance: “Signed Sealed Delivered” by Stevie Wonder

With very few formalities, it was a night full of dancing. My favorite musical transition of the night was “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran into “Faith” By George Michael. “Faith” was one of their ‘must plays’ and it was cool to be able to blend the older with the new and the tempos and keys seemed to go together perfectly. It was a GREAT dancing crowd. As guests enjoyed dancing, they also took full advantage of the photo booth. What a way to set the tone for the first wedding of the Spring season at The Henderson.

We’re School Dance DJs Too | Meigs Middle School Dance With DJ Charles

While wedding season is in full gear, we’re also on the cusp of School Dance season. We don’t write about it often enough, but we are definitely school dance DJs as well as wedding DJs. Prom season starts in a bit and DJ Charles is the best DJ on the Emerald Coast when it comes to school dances. He knows exactly how to rock the crowd but still keep everything kosher for the faculty and dance chaperones.

school dance DJs

This past week, we sent Charles and 2 party motivators to Meigs Middle School in Shalimar, FL for a dance that helps to raise funds for the 8th grade appreciation day at the end of the year. The dance was held in the school’s cafeteria. There were about 100 students in attendance and the event was hype from the first song.

We had two of our party motivators/ MCs in training work with Charles. They were out there leading line dances and dancing with the kids all night long. For these kind of dances, this helps take the event to another level. The song of the night was “iSpy” by Kyle feat. Lil Yacty.

We got an amazing review within about 30 minutes of the dance ending by the one of the school dance advisors. Thanks again for having us Meigs and we look forward to working with you again soon.

Meet DJ Jae Richie | The Party Starter

We are excited to introduce you to DJ Jae Richie, one of our Jr. Associate DJs. Jae is what we call a triple threat entertainer – he can sing, dance and mix! This guy can really do it all. Our staff loves being paired with Jae as the MC because he’s one of our most interactive DJs on staff. He’ll get out there and dance with the crowd and really take the party to another level without it coming across cheesy. MC’ing and crowd hype is really second nature to him.

Jae brought with him to B-Boy a plethora of event experience – he was in a traveling theatre group, danced professionally, and has been recently hosting karaoke at a local restaurant during the week. Having been trained in our system, he sees the value of structure and with our emphasis on this, he’s been able to thrive within that environment. One of the things about Jae is that he is very calm under pressure. He doesn’t seem to get rattled easily. There could be rain or a maybe a delay with pictures and Jae has the ultimate poker face. He’ll be sure to keep guests entertainment and none are the wiser.

If you want the ultimate party starter, Jae definitely fits the bill.

To read more about Jae and see his reviews, click here.

Based in the Fort Walton Beach area, Jae is booked there as well as all over the Emerald Coast for his events. To book him for your event, contact us today.

UWF Dance Marathon | #bboygivesback

Sometimes we come across non-profits that just seem to fall in our laps as perfect fits for our #bboygivesback initiative. The UWF Dance Marathon is one of them. Of course, it helps that one of our DJs attends UWF (University of West Florida).

Dance Marathon DJ

Never heard of a Dance Marathon? Colleges across the country have been doing these for years. It is a yearlong philanthropy effort that raises funds for the Children’s Miracle Network. The UWF Dance Marathon, in particular, raises funds through that organization for a local hospital, the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart in Pensacola. DJ Josh Weck saw a great opportunity for us to do what we do – throw down fantastic music with polished MC’ing. This effort is in its second year at UWF. The first year UWF used a spotify playlist for the entertainment. With a live DJ/MC, this would be a completely different experience for them (in a good way). Josh was up to the 8 hour DJ’ing challenge for the signature event. Students danced from 10:00AM until 8:00PM. Not all danced the entire 8 hours (most came in waves through the 8 hours), but a few did. To keep it from getting stagnant, certain hours were themed by genre or style.

The results? Last year they raised $11,000 and this year they raised over $43,000! Boom!

Interested in being a part of the Dance Marathon? Anyone can get involved – whether it is donating, being on the Executive board, or being a dancer. Follow them on Instagram to learn more. Also, if you are interested in volunteering with the local hospital they do accept volunteers there as well.

Here’s what 2 administrators had to say about our involvement on our 3rd party review site.
