Best 30A Wedding Venues | B-Boy 2015 Picks

Year after year, a set of blog posts keeps ranking as one of our most searched.  It’s our annual selection of top Destination Wedding Venues.  We love being able to help clients out with as much information as we can (even if it is non-music related).  Since we are heavily entrenched in Florida’s Emerald Coast (we do over 400 weddings a year just in that market alone), we have a good pulse of what’s “hot”.  In the last year or so, a bunch of new wedding venues have popped up that you should consider.  They span from Rosemary Beach (30A) to Destin to Fort Walton Beach, FL which on a good traffic day is about 45 minutes to an hour from one another.  We’re going to break this up into a 3 part series.

Why 30-A?  It’s becoming the hottest area right now for weddings and the 30A wedding venues are some of the best in the area. This is primarily because it’s less congested than Destin.  Also, with more land to build, you’re starting to see more development take place. It’s not too far from Panama City Beach airport and it’s closer to Highway 331 (the gateway to the Emerald Coast from Interstate 10) than Destin or Fort Walton Beach.  Here’s our 2015 wedding venue picks for 30-A.

The Pearl – Rosemary Beach, FL
This quaint hotel has quite the impressive look and though not totally evident at first, it has multiple unique room and indoor/outdoor spaces all within the hotel to fit different aesthetics for guests counts ranging from 12 to 40.  The plus side…you’re off 30A in Rosemary Beach, which will blow away guests with its upscale an small-town feel. It has accommodations at the venue! Everything can be done there (including your rehearsal dinner).  Also Amanda and her staff are amazing to work with.  If there is a downside, it would be parking.  Unless you’re staying at the hotel, you’re going to have to get creative with the parking (especially during busy season).  That said, it can be done and I wouldn’t let that detour you from this amazing venue.  Here’s a quick shot of a side lobby that leads into one of the ballrooms.
30A Wedding Venues

The Bowery On 30-A – Grayton Beach, FL
We’re super excited to introduce you to the newest multi-level event space along 30-A. They recently renovated this location and folks, it is stunning.  Downstairs they have a restaurant which can be shut down for events and is perfect for a cocktail hour.  Upstairs, they have two event spaces.  The smaller of the two spaces (pictured below) has floor to ceiling windows and can accommodate up to 80 people (seated). The bigger room can comfortably seat up to 150 people, has a stage in place for entertainment and is hard-wired with sound and production lighting. Both rooms have amazing chandeliers. Want a beach ceremony?  They have access to a private beach which is within walking distance.  Parking is not an issue with this location as they have a huge parking lot.  This event space opened earlier this year and we think by this time next year, it’ll be the hottest property for events bar none.  Bob and Annemarie are fantastic to work with and they do allow you to bring in your own vendors except for the catering, which must be done in-house.

30A Wedding DJ

331 South – Santa Rosa Beach, FL
Formerly known as Bentley’s On The Bay, this location is under new ownership and management.  WeddingWire chose this location for their 2015 venue spotlight and had their annual vendor networking night there. This for the couple who is looking for a non-beach wedding venue.  It sits next to the Choctawhatchee Bay and boasts both an outdoor and indoor space.  You can pick one or the other or utilize both. It also can serve as your built-in “rain back-up plan”.  Parking is not an issue at this location.  Inside, you can fit 80-100 people comfortablyy and outside around the same (maybe a little more).  One of the things they’ve added is outside catering. So if you do the taste test and love the food but want a different location, the food can come with you. Christine and her staff do great work and are referred by all of the top professionals in the area.

Stay tuned for our Destin and Fort Walton Beach 2015 picks coming out soon. In the meantime, want some other location ideas?  Check out our 2013 picks and Part 1 and Part 2 of our 2014 picks.

DJ Josh B and Hilton Sandestin Wedding DJs | Dominique and Rumiko

With the mild autumn temperatures setting in on Florida’s Emerald Coast, the white beaches of the Hilton Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort are all the more inviting for happy couples seeking the perfect setting for their wedding day. For Dominique Kuykendall and Rumiko Murrell, “perfect” turned out to be a very fitting description! The calm waters turned turquoise as the setting sun painted the sky a fade of orange and purple—offering a splendid color palette as a backdrop for their ceremony and their first photos as newlyweds.

On the Hilton’s Sunset Deck, the reception layout presented an intimate setting for the event’s quaint number of guests. The dining tables all connected in a “U” pattern, so every loved one was never far from the gathering as a whole.

Sandestin Wedding DJs

The wedding party entered to Drake’s “Started From the Bottom,” soon followed by Rumiko and Dominique’s very spirited first dance to “You & I” by Avant & Keke Wyatt. As dinner was being enjoyed, I treated the guests to a short round of Bride & Groom Trivia—with prizes! The lucky winners went home with a thousand “doll hairs” (still attached to the doll), a brand new “toy Yoda,” and two “100 Grand” candy bars.

The champagne toasts after dinner brought many a heartfelt moment, but plenty of laughs as well. The bride took a moment to voice her sincere appreciation of all the friends and family who were present, just before the ceremonial cutting of the cake … And then it was time to party! Kicking off with a throwback to Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” filled the dance floor instantly, and it never emptied until “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith signed off the night in true romantic fashion. Memorable highlights included some impressive moves on display during “2 Step” by Unk, and everyone joining in to dance the Electric Slide to “Candy” by Cameo.

It was a joy to celebrate with Dominique and Rumiko and their guests, and I consider it an honor and privilege to have been a part of their wedding day. It was a day I am certain they will hold in fond memory for their many happy years to come.

Seacrest Beach Wedding Celebration with DJ Dan | Matt & Hannah

The weather in Northwest Florida is quite fickle. Indeed, it can change by the minute. Fortunately, for Matt and Hannah Radicz’s wedding, it didn’t stop us from partying the night away!

Seacrest Beach Wedding

Matt and Hannah’s reception was held poolside at The Villas condominiums in luxurious Seacrest Beach, FL. Some severe thunderstorms moved into the area and poured down rain, but they didn’t stay long. Everything had dried off by the time the reception was to be held.

For this event, there was no planner; Matt and Hannah were working with a very tight budget. Situations like these are where I shine, as I truly believe in rolling up my sleeves and getting my hands dirty. While I took the pressure off of the Bride and Groom and let them go enjoy their special day, I made sure to check on the catering food, make sure the cake cutting utensils were all in place, and much more. I love to multitask!

The highlight of the evening for me was the Groom and his brother/Best Man performing John Legend’s “All of Me” for his Bride. Matt had contacted me a few weeks prior and told me he wanted to surprise Hannah with a performance. I was nothing but delighted to help facilitate it! She was very touched by his gesture, and cried tears of joy all throughout.

It takes more than a little black rain cloud to stop B-Boy from keeping the party rolling, and party we did that day! Congratulations, Matt & Hannah!

We recently received a wedding wire review on this event from the bride.  Here’s what she had to say:

“DJ Dan Davis made our reception so much fun! He was very responsive from day one, met with us at a coffee shop with last minute notice because we were only in town for a day. We planned our wedding from a distance and he was very efficient with communicating via text & calls. It was the least amount of stress compared to planning with other vendors! He played all of the requests that we specified including 2 songs for the father/daughter dance. He was very in touch with us throughout the reception checking with the groom & I to make sure everything was OK and to assure we were happy with his services. He got everyone up & dancing easily. All of our guests, including us, were dancing all night and having a blast! The value was also essential for us being on a tight budget.  Thank you so much Dan Davis for making our reception a success!!!” – Hannah Lee, Panama City Beach, FL (event date: 9/13/14)

DJ Charles in the mix for a Hilton Sandestin Weddings | Keith & Erica

I had the pleasure of DJ’ing Keith Holtel and Erica Kleinholz’s wedding this past Summer. They were from Cincinnati, Ohio and picked the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Destin, FL as their wedding venue. Their 62 guests came from all over the country.

Hilton Sandestin Wedding DJ Charles

When the reception started, I could just tell that they were going to be a great crowd.  Everything went smoothly and the event had an elegant vibe to it on the Sunset Deck.  However, not even 15 minutes after the Grand Entrance, the Florida summer rain decided to make an appearance.  We made the decision after dinner to move the reception inside to one of the ballrooms since it continued to sprinkle intermitently.  As you can imagine, the delay in having to reset caused the mood to shift a bit.  I knew I had to do my best to entertain these people and swing the momentum!  I mean, this is one of the biggest days of their lives and there’s no way I was going to let a little rain ruin this beautiful ocassion.

As soon as I got re-set, I instantly threw on some upbeat dance music hits!  This proved to be the remedy.  From that moment on, they went into full party mode and we kept it slammin’ all night! It was definitely one of the best crowds I’ve ever DJ’d for. Thank you Erica and Keith for letting me be a part of your big day!  Best of luck to you both!

We recently received a wedding wire review on this event from the bride.  Here’s what she had to say:

“We had a destination wedding in Sandestin so we didn’t really know what to expect. The wedding was beautiful and DJ Charles was right there on the deck for the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dance. It was great. THEN it started to rain so they moved us inside to another room and everyone’s mood wasn’t the greatest. DJ Charles’ flexibility and professionalism to pack all of his equipment up and move inside was awesome. Once he got set up, DJ Charles got the party started again and the reception turned out to be just as great as the ceremony. Thanks DJ Charles for rocking the house and making it a perfect night.” – Erica Kleinholz, Destin, FL (event date: 6/17/14)

WaterColor Wedding DJs | DJ Duane Entertains for Ashley & Tyler

As a full time wedding and event DJ entertainer, I have had the opportunity to witness countless wedding celebrations and been privileged to meet some really amazing people. One of my most recent clients were the Heckman’s. Their wedding took place at the beautiful Western Lake Park, a part of Watercolor Inn in beautiful WaterColor, Florida, and their reception took place on the property at The Lakehouse. Talk about a beautiful setup! As you can see in the pictures below, this was a gorgeous setting!

I could tell from the very beginning that Ashley and Tyler were going to be a blast! From their #tyandashgettingweird wedding hashtag to the conversation during our planning meeting together, I knew that I had to pull out all the stops for their reception. They definitely wanted a fun, energetic, party-like atmosphere to share with all of their guests and that is exactly what we did. Playing classics like “Twist & Shout” to modern hits like “Feel So Close”, we rocked all ages all night long! It was definitely a terrific highlight from my 2014 wedding catalog!

We recently received a wedding wire review on this event from the bride.  Here’s what she had to say:

“Our DJ (Duane) was great.  He knew the right music to play and got people on the dance floor even before the cake cutting! He was super accommodating as well, regarding our song selection and if we wanted to change up songs halfway through playing another. Duane can get the party started for sure!”

DJ Josh B Rocks Hilton Sandestin Weddings | Nikki & Donnie

Sandestin Weddings

As B-Boy Productions’ resident Hilton Sandestin DJ/Emcee, I had the privilege to perform for the wedding of Nikki Young to current University of Tennessee men’s basketball head coach, Donnie Tyndall. Their ceremony took place on the white sands of the beach.  The weather was gorgeous, the attire was casual, and the smiles were abundant!

Nikki and Donnie said their I-do’s, the crowd of loved ones and onlookers alike erupted in a cheer as they kissed, and within minutes the wedding guests were making their way up to the deck to enjoy some refreshments and the Florida evening air as the sun began to set and the newlywed couple tended to having their photos taken.

I have discovered in my time as a destination wedding DJ that the term “cocktail hour” is often a misnomer, considering one hardly ever actually lasts a full hour. But on this particular occasion, the bride and groom were in no hurry to rob themselves of one moment in the gorgeous outdoor surroundings offered by the Hilton’s beachside verandas. They joined their guests on the Sunrise Deck as the cafe lighting took over for the retired sun, and the merry crowd mingled and consorted for the entirety of the hour. I was happy to lurk a bit in the shadows, manning my laptop as the music offered a subtle soundtrack to the merriment around me, because it gave me a chance to observe the attendees and get a bit of an idea what sort of celebration they would be up for as the night progressed.

As cocktail hour came to a close, we moved indoors to the Coral Ballroom, for the reception.  Inside the long and majestically high-ceiled hall, a massive dance floor and plenty of spacious seating around ornately decorated tables awaited their guests. A long banquet table for the bride and groom to sit flanked by their bridesmaids and groomsmen ran along the main wall in plain view of every guest.

Nikki and Donnie, along with Donnie’s two young daughters, made their grand entrance into the ballroom to “Rocky Top,” the fight song of UT, as their friends and family cheered their arrival with as much gusto as any sports crowd. As I had instructed them, they made their way to the dance floor to share their first dance … but that’s when a surprise was sprung on the bride. Donnie appeared on the large screen in a prerecorded message, offering a poetic tribute of love — which he “rapped” — to his new bride. The mixture of humor and genuine emotion on display as the video version of Donnie cracked a bit in his delivery had Nikki, and plenty others, giggling through happy tears. At the video’s conclusion, I cued up “Whatever It Is” by the Zac Brown Band, and Donnie and Nikki were in each others’ arms sharing their first dance as husband and wife.

Hilton Sandestin Wedding DJs

Nikki remained on the dance floor as I invited her father to join her. Dad and daughter shared a few short minutes of closeness to the tune of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” — which then suddenly transitioned into “Happy” by Pharrell. All sappiness abandoned, Nikki and her dad let loose and cut a rug, much to the delight of all in attendance. At Donnie’s turn to dance with his mother, the classic “Wind Beneathe My Wings” by Bette Midler proved a perfect choice.

Upon the conclusion of dinner, the Best Man offered a toast to the happy couple as did the Maid of Honor. Then I introduced another video presentation featuring a photo slide show of both Donnie and Nikki as they grew up. From baby pictures to present day, the memories played upon the screen and in the end there was hardly a dry eye in the room. I offered the microphone to the groom, who managed to say a brief but very heartfelt thank you to everyone before we moved ahead with the cake cutting and other festivities. The bouquet toss mustered a sizable crowd of fairly competitive single ladies, but the catch ended up going to one of the youngest (and most petite) girls in the group. Donnie removed Nikki’s garter to the sultry vibes of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”.  Once again, the catch — or more accurately, the scoop, was scored by a very young lad who clearly wasn’t quite sure what it was he had there (I’m sure it will occur to him sometime when he’s older).

The crowd proved eclectic in their musical tastes, shaking it down to everything from golden oldies and 70’s disco, to 90’s hip hop and today’s hottest country! One of Donnie’s young daughters entertained with an impromptu karaoke of “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea.

Being on vacation in Florida, everyone related well to “Toes” by Zac Brown Band. Figurative boots were scooted to “Wagon Wheel” by Darius Rucker. I took great pleasure in teaching the bride (and a few unwashed others) how to do the “Cupid Shuffle.” Great classic rock hits like “Shout” and “Do You Love Me?” rounded out the energy of the night, and the evening drew down with the dance floor covered in couples as Jason Mraz sang “I Won’t Give Up” and finally, the legendary Elton John mused “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.”

Destin Wedding DJ

For the multitude of memorable moments packed into this one single evening, I can’t help but consider Donnie and Nikki’s wedding to be one of the best I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of! When by the end of the night it genuinely feels like you’re not just DJ’ing another “gig,” but instead you’re celebrating with a room full of new friends — it makes it hard to stop. My hope for this happy couple is for all that same joy and exuberance to continue on beyond their wedding day and into the full length of their marriage. Because if so, their life together will be an absolute blast!

***UPDATE [This review just came in from Nikki on our Yelp page]***
“My husband and I just had the most amazing wedding on the beach in Sandestin, FL. Our DJ, Josh, was amazing! He was so professional and did a fantastic job. He called me a month before the wedding and went over the playlist with me. I felt assured he would do a great job and that is what ‘brides to be’ need! He did everything I asked and then some! The songs he picked were perfect for every occasion (grand entrance, dinner music, etc.). If you are a ‘bride to be’ looking for an experienced, friendly, professional DJ for your wedding…look no further than B-Boy and DJ Josh B.”

Hilton Sandestin Wedding DJ Duane In The Mix | Lindsay & Anthony

Sandestin Wedding DJ

One of the biggest thrills that I experience in my job as a Destin and Sandestin wedding DJ is seeing a bride and groom truly get to enjoy themselves with friends and family as they completely throw down on the dance floor in celebration! That being said, Lindsay and Anthony definitely made it to my highlight reel for 2014! It all took place at one of our favorite venues, the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Destin, FL. They recently renovated the property and if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, you absolutely need to! It’s really one of the best looking hotels in the area bar none. That said, one of the reasons the Hilton has become one of our client’s favorite venues is because of the ‘all-in-one’ wedding packages they offer: a venue, a coordinator, catering, and indoor/outdoor options for a reception. This makes for easy communication and transitions in case of emergency (the rain, heat, etc).

Everything went according to plan for Lindsay and Anthony’s big day! They enjoyed a beautiful ceremony out on the sugary white sands of the Emerald Coast and took photos right after their vows while their guests headed inside for cocktails. Once the couple was ready to make their grand entrance, I gave their guests a quick pep talk reminding them to cheer, dance, and laugh as much as possible to make sure this would be a day Lindsay or Anthony would never forget. If the picture of the groom and his groomsmen at the top of this post didn’t already give it away, let me tell you, this crowd did not need much encouragement at all! Once we went through all of the formality dances and dinner, it was time to PARTY! The dance floor was never empty and Anthony stole the show with dance moves on par with Justin Timberlake himself! We had such a great time that when it came time to end, the couple decided to extend the party for another hour! A big congratulations goes out to the newlyweds and a big thank you for letting me be a part of such an important day in their lives!  Check out the highlights we put together in this video.

Highlands House Wedding Highlights with DJ Dan Davis | Jenna and Evan

Highlands House Bed and Breakfast is a wedding venue located in Santa Rosa Beach, FL along the world-famous Highway 30-A stretch of the Emerald Coast. B-Boy Productions is the exclusively referred entertainment company for the property. As the B-Boy “resident DJ” for Highlands House, I am there often and their staff and I recognize one another by name and face. We have developed a teamwork dynamic that really helps create a smooth and efficient atmosphere for our clients and guests that really shines. This particular wedding was one of their largest guest-wise. They handled this entire affair with the utmost care and service, better than I’ve ever seen them administrate any event (and that’s saying a lot since they’ve done such a good job with every one that I’ve been a part of!).

For a mid-June wedding, Jenna and Evan Sanders really won the Florida lottery. No, not the one you may be thinking of, but the weather lottery. The chance for precipitation in this state can often times be unpredictable, but I could not imagine a better day to get married. Perfect sky, perfect warmth, and naturally, one the world’s perfect beaches!

This wedding had a few stand-out moments. The first was that the date was Friday, the 13th. If that wasn’t already unique, how about the fact that 5 other couples who were attending their reception as guests were also married on a Friday, the 13th? It was actually a family tradition! Jenna and Evan put together a tribute of which I got the privilege to read through during dinner as we called up each couple who went before them in marriage and honored them. So cool!

The other stand-out moment was the Father/Daughter dance. Jenna had mentioned during our planning session that she had a special edit that she was going to send me. Intrigued, I eagerly awaited to hear what it was going to be and I don’t think anything could have prepared me for what she sent. To an unsuspecting crowd, after an un-announced “wardrobe change”  (Jenna changed into a more “active wear” dress), Jenna and her father began dancing to the wedding staple “My Girl” by The Temptations. Things quickly took a turn when that tale-tell melody of “Thriller” by Michael Jackson began playing, fittingly enough for Friday the 13th. In reality, Jenna and her Father had choreographed a dance number beforehand, and really wowed not only their friends and family, but me as well! The medley concluded, rather surprisingly, with “Bye Bye Bye” by N*Sync.  What a great way to kick off a party!

After a lovely meal and some special toasts, we danced the rest of the night away on the dance floor. After such a special day filled with great memories, it certainly didn’t take a lot of effort to get people out on the floor! What a happy  day! Here’s a quick highlight reel of the night. Enjoy!

Wedding Entertainment with DJ Irving G: Henderson Park Inn, Destin FL | Harris Wedding

With the sugar white sand on the beach, the perfectly clear sky and the turquoise water color on full display, it was another awesome spring day on the Emerald Coast of Florida. Our bride and groom, Justin and Hayley Harris, had assembled an all-star supporting cast of vendors to work with us at Henderson Park Inn in Destin, FL. We had Michael K Photography, Florals by the Sea, Cake Destination and Beach Walk Café. There was no doubt that we were primed for an amazing wedding.

As the guests filed down to the beach, you could just feel the excitement. When Justin saw Hayley walk down that aisle, his face lit up with a huge smile. It was such a beautiful ceremony.

Henderson Park Inn Wedding Ceremony

With the ceremony over, the guests transitioned to the lawn for cocktail hour. They enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while listening to the the smooth Caribbean sounds of our steel drummer extraordinaire, Rudy Applewhite. Drinks in hand and the great company of friends, many of whom had not seen one another for a long time, made for the perfect combo as we got ready for a fun-filled reception.

Henderson Park Inn Wedding Decor

Mr. and Mrs. Justin Harris walked into the reception and the crowd went wild. The first dance was a very appropriate choice with it being a beach wedding. They danced to “Kokomo” by the Beach Boys. The happy couple was just lost in the moment.

Henderson Park Inn Wedding First Dance

The music for the dinner hour was a mixture of laid back reggae, some retro throwbacks and a few current selections mixed in. Guests were singing and clapping along to many of the songs. As we got ready to transition into dancing, we picked up the tempo a bit.

Once we segued into open dancing, it became very apparent that the crowd loved that old time rock and roll. Everything from The Beatles to Jerry Lee Lewis, guests couldn’t get enough. From the very first song, guests were out on the floor!

When the crowd really got down, the white Wayfarer shades came out and the dance floor stayed packed almost the entire night.

I even got on the dance floor and led a few dances with Justin, Hayley and their guests.

How did they end this perfect night? With a glow stick tunnel of course. All of their family and friends cheered them on as Justin and Hayley made their way through it. It was a great send-off and completed an awesome reception.

We’re there EVERY Thursday from 10PM – 2AM with a rotation of our DJs and there’s no cover! It even prompted this amazing text from management to Brian B.
