The Henderson Wedding in Destin FL With DJ Brian B

A throwback to this Henderson Wedding in Destin FL from this past Fall (the professional images recently came in). This was my (Brian B) 2nd wedding of 3 this particular weekend so I was definitely in my wedding groove. To be honest, when the bride-to-be called us inquiring on our services, she was wanting a band but felt for the space, a DJ was a better fit. I could hear the disappointment in her voice but I told her not to worry. I would make sure it was all good from the music side. The Henderson in Destin, FL provided the perfect backdrop for a fantastic celebration of love. It wasn’t quite October yet so the humidity was still pretty intense. But you know you have a great crowd when everything is done outside and they partied anyway. That was the case with Kindra and Jason’s Henderson Wedding in Destin FL.

The ceremony was held on the Western Lawn and it was a stunning setting with the backdrop of the Henderson Park Inn on one side and the gulf on the other.

They moved to the Eastern Lawn for cocktail hours where we brought out all of our Lawn Games. They were a total hit!

Guests were then transitioned to the Grand Lawn for the rest of the evening.

  • First Dance: “Feet Don’t Touch The Ground” by Stony Larue
  • Father/Daughter Dance: “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart
  • Mother/Son Dance: “The Baby” by Blake Shelton

Kindra and Jason gave me total autonomy with the dinner music. When I get that type of leeway, it’s game on to see who how quickly I can get them on to the dance floor. Let’s just say it was hard to tell where dinner began and when we transitioned to open dancing. We had a pretty packed floor the entire night.

Wedding at Manhattan Penthouse on Fifth Avenue | Kristen and Doug

So when you hear “wedding at Manhattan penthouse” most people think of a private residence. Though we’ve done those type before, the Manhattan Penthouse on Fifth Avenue is an actual event space in the heart of Union Square at 5th Avenue and 14th Street. It’s on the 17th floor and has one of the best views in the area.

Wedding at Manhattan Penthouse on Fifth Avenue

The space itself is very modular and is perfect for the entire wedding – ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. They do a “flip” of the ceremony/reception space while guests are ushered to a separate room on the same floor for cocktail hour. The cocktail hour room is great because it has an in-house sound system built in. The staff at the venue are some of the best in the business. Monica and Glenn do so such a fantastic job of taking care of their clients.

Kristen’s family is from Wisconsin and she works in fashion. Doug’s family is from Irvine, CA and he works in the culinary industry. They both met in NYC. Their wedding was an intimate affair with a guest count of about 50 people. Though we had a Grand Entrance planned, Doug came up to me and decided to call an audible and make it a little more relaxed and organic so we struck the Grand Entrance all together. This was a great call by him and I’m so glad we did it that way. The venue did the catering and it was so good! During dinner, I keyed in on the bride’s suggestion of playing some Radiohead (specifically from the In Rainbows album). This was a surprise to Doug and he was so moved by hearing one of his favorite albums.

    • First Dance: “Luna” by Smashing Pumpkins Lewis
    • Father/Daughter Dance: “A Song for My Daughter” by Ray Allaire
    • Cake Cut: “Sugar” by Maroon 5
    • Bouquet Toss: “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen
    • Garter Removal/Toss: “The Man” by Aloe Blacc
    • Last Dance: “This Must Be The Place” by Talking Heads
    • NYC Wedding DJOnce the dance floor opened, it took a bit to get everyone out there (which tends to happen with small guest counts). That said, once they all had a little liquid courage in them, the dance floor was packed the rest of the night. We wish the newlyweds nothing but many years of marital bliss.

Baker FL Wedding DJ Brian B | Chelsea and Jesse

When you think of a wedding on the Emerald Coast, a Baker FL wedding probably isn’t one of the first things that comes to mind. But it should. I was honored to be the Baker FL Wedding DJ of choice at Camp Retreat, an amazing venue that features a barn which can fit upwards of 200-300 people. This came in useful since we had over 250+ folks in attendance. Chelsea is the cousin of one of our sales associates and wedding directors, Christen Cowgill, which made the event all the more fun and personal.

Florida Barn Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony location was a small walking jaunt from the barn and overlooked a lake that created a stunning look!  They handmade the arbor and brought in old school pews to complete the setting. The weather was perfect — not too hot, not too cold and more importantly VERY LOW humidity. Graeme officiated and knocked it out of the park. Musically, the ceremony choices were eclectic. We used some Bethel Instrumental selections from the album “Without Words” for prelude and family/wedding party entrances. The bride came down the aisle to “A Thousand Years” (Piano Guys version) and the wedding party exited to “Can’t Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. How about these doors?

Wedding Ceremony Barn Door Decor

Chelsea (the bride) and I had some great discussions about her and Jesse’s (the groom) vision for their reception. They literally gave me the reigns with one directive, “play amazing music”. That was it.  While I am honored with their trust, it always is a bit daunting at a wedding because of the diverse cultures and age ranges not to mention other “day of” factors – family dynamics, weather, etc. From the time the reception started, it was on! The crowd was seriously ready to throw down. I took one look at Chelsea jamming out during dinner and I knew I was on the right track.

Once the dancing started, tit packed out pretty quickly!  I could’ve played the Hokey Pokey and it would’ve gone off (disclaimer: I would never play that song – ha). It was all over the map musically (in one stretch I went from Led Zeplin to Luke Bryan to Mo Money Mo Problems) and the crowd ate every song up.

Emerald Coast Top Salon 2017 Fashion Event | #bboygivesback

We’ve been involved with the Emerald Coast Top Salon event since its inception back in 2011. I (Brian B), personally, feel honored to have DJ’d 3 out of the 6 events (including the last 2 consecutive years). It’s a unique event in that they select a handful of local salons to participate and “battle” one another. Each salon has a charity they are supporting. The Emerald Coast Top Salon 2017 battle is fairly simple: Take one person (of the salon’s choosing) and do a complete make-up (hair, make-up, clothing, etc.). The winning salon’s charity is awarded a substantial cash donation.

The 2017 event was held at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa in the Emerald Ballroom on April 7, 2017. Over 600 people were in attendance to see 14 salons battle it out and see their models walk the runway. Pure and Couture Salon won “Fan Favorite”, Southern Roots Salon and Spa won the “Judges’ Pick award” and the grand prize, the 2017 “Top Salon” was Avantgarde Salon Spa. This was Avantgarde 4th time winning the event and 2nd consecutive win. Their benefiting charity was Others of Destin, Inc.

Runway tracks were as follows:

  • Volume One Salon: “Get Me Bodied” by Beyonce
  • Traveling Chic: “Confident” by Demi Lovato
  • The Posh Daisy Salon Spa: “Live Like You Are Loved” by Hawk Nelson
  • The Kat House Hair Studio: “Pound The Alarm” by Nicki Minaj
  • The Cutting Room Salon and Spa: “Vivrant Thing” by Q-Tip
  • Spa Lala Day Spa and Salon: “Layla” by Eric Clapton
  • Southern Roots Salon and Spa: “American Woman” by The Guess Who
  • Serenity by the Sea Spa: “Me Too” by Meghan Trainor
  • Pure & Couture Salon: “Something Just Like This (Vanity X Kevin Peels Remix)” – The Chainsmokers & Coldplay
  • project:STYLE salon: “U Got the Look” by Prince
  • Lux Solis Aveda Salon & Spa: “Girl On Fire” by Alicia Keys
  • La Renaissance Salon: “Can’t Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake
  • Avantgarde Salon Spa: “24K” by Bruno Mars
  • As You Like It Salon and Spa: “Finally (Roman Hunter Remix)” by CeCe Peniston

DJ Brian B spun the pre-event music setting a high-energy tone with an open format.  There were 4 intermissions between the 14 salons that became “booty breaks” with attendees jumping on to the catwalk and dancing it up.

This was by far the most successful showcase in this event’s six year history.  Looking forward to including this event in our 2018 #bboygivesback plans.

Spring Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Wedding Entertainment | DJ Brian B

We Love Providing Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Wedding Entertainment…especially for great couples.

This past weekend we were back at one of our favorite venues for a Spring Wedding – Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort for Cindy and Chris’ wedding. When you’re providing Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Wedding entertainment and handling the activities for such a great couple, you want to be sure everything is top notch.

I (Brian B) feel like I have known Cindy forever. We probably chatted at least once a month from the time she booked with us up until the wedding day. I love those types of clients. They actually were already married (Chris is in the military) so this celebration was for family and friends.

Cindy had the complete B-Boy experience. Beyond what Sandestin provides, we covered everything else except for floral and photography. You can’t put a price on having our entire team there. The chemistry with our crew working together is umatched.

When we started the planning process, the collaboration with Cindy and Chris was effortless. They wanted to do as many unique things that we could come up with so we did a LOT of them – from bride and groom trivia, to the anniversary countdown, to the garter switch to a celebrity sighting and grand exit!

Brian B Entertains as Wedding DJ at the Emerald Grande Destin Harborview Room

This year I (Brian B) have been booked more and more as a destination event DJ across the country and abroad while growing our New York City operations. When opportunities now come to perform on the Emerald Coast, I relish them. Saturday was no exception. I got back to our Florida regional office performing as a Wedding DJ at the Emerald Grande Destin in the Harborview Room. The Spring weather was exceptional (very little to no humidity). Paired with the amazing Chris Alvarado who handled the ceremony and cocktail hour music, the entertainment was on another level. For an intimate group of 50 guests, this was an extreme musical treat all night and they were blown away. It’s been a few years since I personally worked at the Emerald Grand. One of the things that impressed me the most about the venue is their “pro” client and vendor approach. Cindy and her team couldn’t have been more nice and accommodating to every request of the vendors and the client. In the event industry, this is something that isn’t as common as one would think. Kudos to the Emerald Grande and their team.

One of the things I now appreciate more than ever is that guests were asked to be “present” and not take any photos at the event. This allowed them to soak in every bit of the wedding experience. I honored their request as well and took my picture pre-event. I brought in our plush white facade which accents that room perfectly. With our clean Bose speaker set-up and production lighting, the event was every bit what the bride and groom, Jenny and Greg, had dreamed it would be and more.

Intimate: NYC Wedding Entertainment at The Little Beet Table

Djing and providing NYC Wedding Entertainment always makes for some fun experiences. You see, New York City is known for its over the top weddings and we have definitely entertained our fair share of them. However, every now and then, we get an amazing couple who wants to go for a very intimate wedding experience. That was certainly the case for Adam and Courtney, one of our clients who had their wedding earlier this month. One of our favorite things about the City is the fact there is no shortage of venue spaces that have their own charm and and feel. They selected “The Little Beet Table” in the Flatiron District. They rented out the entire space and it worked perfectly for the 100 or so guests they had in attendance. With a fantastic vendor team, we were able to put together a very memorable experience for our couple of honor.

Adam and Courtney had an eclectic list of cocktail hour and dinner songs which I sure did appreciate. It spanned the spectrum – pop to indie to R&B to eletronica to some oldies. However, once the dancing started, the genre of choice was definitely 90s Hip Hop and R&B. That is a favorite era of mine so I was up for the challenge to throw down. The dance floor stayed pack the entire night. Such a great time!

DJ Brian B Partners With The Birthday Party Project

I heard about The Birthday Party Project and I knew they would be a major player in our #bboygivesback initiative. As the owner/operator of B-Boy Productions, it was important that I lead the charge of our #bboygivesback initiative. For years, I had looked for a non-profit partner that was a perfect fit for B-Boy. In the interim, we did plenty of non-profit events and were glad to be a part of them (still are). However, last year, we found one of those perfect fits. I heard about The Birthday Party Project and I knew they would be a major player in our #bboygivesback initiative. It’s a party themed organization! I mean, could it be any more in our wheelhouse as an entertainment company?

Birthday party project New York

I believe the statistic was 80% of kids in a homeless family shelter never celebrate a birthday. When I heard that, my heart broke for those children. Not one birthday party? We can’t have that. I immediately made a call to see how we could get involved. Late last year I volunteered to be a part of what was already in place before making suggestions on what else could be done with my event niche. The party was all I thought it would be and more.

So what is the The Birthday Party Project (TBPP) and how does it work? Originating out of Dallas, this non-profit is 5 years old and growing rapidly. They are now in multiple major cities and adding more all the time. They partner with a few homeless family shelters in each city. Every month they work with some of the best in the event business world who donate their time and talents. The theme of the party changes each month. The one I went to last year was a carnival themed party. Papa John’s donates pizza for all the kids. Ceci New York handles the invitations and then many volunteers come and run the games and activities for 2 hours. If it is a child’s birthday that month, TBPP gets the inside scoop on what that child likes. From monetary donations received in, they provide a big gift or two to each child whose birthday falls in that month. Goody bags go out to all of the other kids in attendance so no one leaves empty-handed. Of course, there’s a birthday cake and cupcakes as well!

This month’s theme was “Dance Party”. Clearly, there was a need for a DJ. With 3 shelters in NYC, I was able to volunteer for 2 of the 3 dates and put my DJ skill set to use. It was an absolute blast. Glow in the dark necklaces and glow wands as well as cool shades, a photo booth station and fantastic music made the party! I hope to share my experience with other DJ colleagues of mine as well as other event professionals and add to the amazing work that TBPP is already doing.

New Sample DJ Mix by Brian B

Who doesn’t enjoy listening to a good DJ mix? Especially for the gym, work, commuting, house parties, pre-game, etc? Well, our own DJ Brian B has put together a Sample DJ mix for you utilize however you’d like.

A good DJ Mix is a Swatch of Sound

Often, we get clients who ask us for samples of our work. One of the advantages of going with B-Boy DJs is that we all have such a wide variety of mixing styles, etc. While this particular mix isn’t indicative of exactly how your event would be mixed (we have a diverse clientele that we customize for), it is a good example of Brian B’s styling. As one client put it, “Brian knows how to arrange music.” He has a knack for weaving tempos, crossing genres, creative transitions, custom editing and mixing “smart” by using wordplay and other techniques in his bag of tricks. This mix is a perfect example of why you’d want to hire a DJ rather than go with a Spotify playlist or an iPod for your event. You just can’t replicate a lot of what DJs do by simply having access to a “song list”.

Sample DJ Mix by DJ Brian B

Photo Courtesy of Rae Leytham Photography

In this particular mix, he’s put together 40 songs within a 75 minute time-frame. It’s primarily Top 40 based with hits from the Summer as well as this Fall’s Hits with a ton of custom mashups and his own edits along with a few throwbacks. Trust me, you will definitely move to this one.

If you want to download your OWN FREE copy of this (as well as past B-Boy DJ Mixes), you can do that through iTunes by clicking here. You can even subscribe and the mixes will automatically appear in your feed when released.

The other option is to stream the mix by clicking play on the widget below. If you enjoy it, please click that little “heart” on the right and share it with your friends. Enjoy!

Rosemary Beach Town Hall Wedding | Jack & Alex

A Rosemary Beach Town Hall wedding is one of the most intimate weddings available on the Emerald Coast. We’ve seen it laid out in just about every type of configuration. However, for Jack And Alex, they used it a bit uniquely. They started with the cocktail hour indoors and then moved everyone outdoors for dinner. After dinner and toasts, they brought everyone back indoors for dancing.

Venue: The Rosemary Beach Town Hall – Rosemary Beach, FL
Wedding Coordination: It’s A Shore Thing
Cocktail Hour & Reception DJ/MC: Brian B, B-Boy Productions
Floral Design: Florals By The Sea
Catering: Townsend Catering
Photography: Lauren Kinsey

For cocktail hour, we kept the music to standards/jazz. I rarely get those types of crowds so it was nice change! I moved locations to the lawn for the dinner where the music started mellow and then gradually grew in tempo and energy. Guests were signing along and tapping there toes throughout.

Rosemary Beach Weddings

Though this was a very intimate crowd of 60 people, they threw down when it was time to party inside. This venue makes it feel full which was ideal for this wedding. It wasn’t just the young kids partying either. I was actually able to get the father of the bride to do some “fist pumping”. Ha! With the weather nearly perfect, this was one of the prettiest weddings I’ve had all year long. Thanks Jack and Alex for having us!
