B-Boy Productions Best Winter 2018 Spotify Playlist

For some around the country, it’s freezing (hello Northeast!). For others, it’s 85 degrees (I’m envious of you SoCal). Either way, you need fresh music for the New Year, right? Well, we got you covered. Our DJs have started our Best Winter 2018 Spotify Playlist with some fantastic tracks. We’ve got a few throwbacks with tunes from Trick Daddy and Chris Brown on the list. One of the hottest songs out, “Finesse”, made the list. This remix with Cardi B will be in rotation at parties for a while. Surprising absent from our playlist is any of the new Justin Timberlake album cuts. Is that a sign? I guess time will tell. A hip hop track that is climbing up the charts right now is “Stir Fry” by Migos – trust me, you will know this cut soon if you don’t already. The Zhu Remix of “Feel It Still” is great atmosphere version for certain events. Keep yourself in the know by subscribing to our Spotify channel or just stream it here.

Inappropriate Wedding Songs That Make You Go Hmm

As wedding DJs, part of our planning process is asking our clients for song requests for their reception. As you can imagine, we see a lot of the same requested tunes. We also get some new tunes that will catch our attention. Every now and then, however, a title or two will be on the list that will have us ponder if it really is appropriate for a wedding (even if the song has a good groove). With that, we present to you a sampling of actual client song requests we’ve been given – “Inappropriate Wedding Songs That make you Go Hmm” (in no particular order).

Emerald Coast Top Salon 2017 Fashion Event | #bboygivesback

We’ve been involved with the Emerald Coast Top Salon event since its inception back in 2011. I (Brian B), personally, feel honored to have DJ’d 3 out of the 6 events (including the last 2 consecutive years). It’s a unique event in that they select a handful of local salons to participate and “battle” one another. Each salon has a charity they are supporting. The Emerald Coast Top Salon 2017 battle is fairly simple: Take one person (of the salon’s choosing) and do a complete make-up (hair, make-up, clothing, etc.). The winning salon’s charity is awarded a substantial cash donation.

The 2017 event was held at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa in the Emerald Ballroom on April 7, 2017. Over 600 people were in attendance to see 14 salons battle it out and see their models walk the runway. Pure and Couture Salon won “Fan Favorite”, Southern Roots Salon and Spa won the “Judges’ Pick award” and the grand prize, the 2017 “Top Salon” was Avantgarde Salon Spa. This was Avantgarde 4th time winning the event and 2nd consecutive win. Their benefiting charity was Others of Destin, Inc.

Emerald Coast Top Salon 2017

Runway tracks were as follows:

  • Volume One Salon: “Get Me Bodied” by Beyonce
  • Traveling Chic: “Confident” by Demi Lovato
  • The Posh Daisy Salon Spa: “Live Like You Are Loved” by Hawk Nelson
  • The Kat House Hair Studio: “Pound The Alarm” by Nicki Minaj
  • The Cutting Room Salon and Spa: “Vivrant Thing” by Q-Tip
  • Spa Lala Day Spa and Salon: “Layla” by Eric Clapton
  • Southern Roots Salon and Spa: “American Woman” by The Guess Who
  • Serenity by the Sea Spa: “Me Too” by Meghan Trainor
  • Pure & Couture Salon: “Something Just Like This (Vanity X Kevin Peels Remix)” – The Chainsmokers & Coldplay
  • project:STYLE salon: “U Got the Look” by Prince
  • Lux Solis Aveda Salon & Spa: “Girl On Fire” by Alicia Keys
  • La Renaissance Salon: “Can’t Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake
  • Avantgarde Salon Spa: “24K” by Bruno Mars
  • As You Like It Salon and Spa: “Finally (Roman Hunter Remix)” by CeCe Peniston

DJ Brian B spun the pre-event music setting a high-energy tone with an open format.  There were 4 intermissions between the 14 salons that became “booty breaks” with attendees jumping on to the catwalk and dancing it up.

This was by far the most successful showcase in this event’s six year history.  Looking forward to including this event in our 2018 #bboygivesback plans.

For The DJs: Affordable DJ Furniture by Vision DJ Designs

Disclaimer: We are not endorsed by Vision DJ Designs. From time to time, we find a product or service we use or feel is extremely worth sharing.

Yesterday we blogged about DJ furniture that we had invested in over the previous 2 years. Fast forward to this past March. The DJ industry received an early Christmas gift – affordable DJ furniture. Right off the bat, you have to know that Vision DJ Designs has owners that get it. Joe Bunn, one of the co-owners of Vision DJ Designs, has been rising in the ranks of the industry elite and has released many educational products for DJs. This is his first foray into the manufacturing business and this product is rock solid.

Joe and and Frank Meldau (the other co-owner of Vision DJ Design) both DJ under Bunn DJ Company out of North Carolina and were tired of DJ’ing on 6 foot skirted banquet tables (sounds familiar). There had to be something better out there…but there wasn’t anything that addressed all their concerns at a reasonable price point. So they built their own and launched DJ Furniture by Vision DJ Designs. In addition to being a DJ, Frank is also a fiberglass expert and has made everything from water slides to giant Christmas balls to sailboats. Joe approached him about making a lightweight, portable, great looking DJ booth, and boom! They did it!

DJ Furniture by Vision DJ Designs

DJ Furniture

This product was debuted at the Mobile Beat Las Vegas (an industry show for DJs). Here’s some of the highlights of the piece for us:

Lightweight and portable: This is essential for selling any piece to the the mass DJ market, let alone DJ furniture. Not everybody has a box truck or trailer or extra staff to transport or set-up. This breaks down and fits in two carrying bags. Total weight of the unit is less than 50 pounds. Upon set-up, there are no tools necessary. Takes 5 minutes and you’re ready to rock (I literally sat there with a stopwatch to time it).

Height Specific: One of the things I love about the company is that their product can be sized at the height you want for no additional charge. We have DJs on our team who are over 6 feet tall and some that are at 5 feet or less.  That is a huge disparity that hurts the back of the tall ones and has our shorter DJs reaching for knobs or standing on a box if the height isn’t right. This is a huge win for the DJ industry.

Black or White Color/Customized Top: An advantage for working with a small manufacturer like Vision DJ Designs is that you can get so many things custom at no charge. Black color not your thing and prefer white? Change it. They’ll do it in either color. What if a new DJ controller with different sizing comes out after you buy this DJ furniture? Order a new top only to fit the new controller. This extends the product life of this furniture piece.

All-In-One: The last thing you want to do after spending money on DJ furniture is have cables everywhere. They thought of that too. All the power and speaker XLR plug-ins are hardwired INTO the case.  Genius. 4 cables out of the unit from the front (not in view of the guests) eliminates the need to have to dig inside the unit and thread cables through it.  See below.

DJ Table Vision DJ Designs

Affordability: What good is DJ furniture if you can’t afford it?  Out the door, the base price is $999 (no bags). If you get all the bells and whistles (2 carrying bags, pre-wiring and laptop stand), you’re looking at $1899 (and that INCLUDES shipping).

This piece is truly unique and will up your game in front of clients, venues, and vendors! It also shows you care – not just about the performance (that has to be priority number one) but that you also care about the aesthetics. This can increase your value instantly. Give it a look over and order yours today.

New B-Boy Entertainment Option: DJ Furniture

For years, it bothered us. Couples would be spend good money on flowers, linens and other decor items to have a certain aesthetic for the wedding of their dreams.  Then, here we come as the DJ and we’re presented with a 6′ banquet table to set our gear on.  We did our best to mask our cables and gear with a “facade” to present a polished and clean appearance and from the guest point of view, it looked pretty clean but there wasn’t a wow factor.

It also felt much like a kid who hides all their toys under their bed when they know their parents are coming in to do a room inspection or an adult who throws all their clutter in the closet when guests come over. It may appear you’ve pulled one over on them, but inside you know it’s not how you want it to be.  This was the picture (below) that sealed the deal for us that we needed to be better. Making a clean and professional work station is part of what we constantly strive for so now we’ve added it as a New B-Boy Entertainment Option.

New B-Boy Entertainment Option:

The photographer took a picture from our angle of our entertainers and while we love the excitement and look of both of them, we could NEVER use this picture in any of our marketing because it just didn’t sit well with us. It looked messy. Again, the client and guests couldn’t see it from their vantage point but we could. Bottom line, our clients deserved better.

We worked with some designers on some DJ specific furniture to really take our presentation to the next level.  We’ve put together a promo video to showcase it off to you.

Currently, these pieces are only available in our Florida and NYC locations (sorry CA clients). If you’re interesting in ordering a piece for your event, contact us today.  They are in limited supply and booked on a first come, first serve basis.  In our Florida market, we are the only company who offers this.  Have your event stand out from the rest!
